Week 4 Being Stuck Don't know how to get your story going? Here are some suggestions:
- Go to the art museum and be inspired by all the creativity. - Put fake silly messages on your phone to get your creativity flowing. - Watch a very simply plotted movie and see how they made it suspenseful and dramatic. - Listen to your favorite music and dance around the house.
If it doesn't help, don't worry. Just go to the next chapter.
Week 3 Don't Quit Even when someone reads your work and doesn't react to it the way you wanted the reader to, DON'T QUIT. Even if they roll their eyes as you describe your plot. The person represents only one opinion. Hey, they might be even having a bad day (had a headache). Wait three days and then go back to your work. You might find that that person may have had some legitimate criticism.
Week 2 Writing Spot Set up a writing spot in your house that everyone knows is for writing and they can't bother you there. Don't spend time fixing it or cleaning it, JUST WRITE! Week 1 Inner Critic Turn off your inner critic while making the first draft of your story. Turn him back on when you edit/revise it. Turn him off and keep him off while your story is at the publishers.
